Sam is the Principal Developer at the FinOps Foundation, where he builds, manages, and maintains the core internal systems, websites, and mobile apps that support the organisation’s global operations. He led the development of COR, the Foundation’s event management and registration platform, which powers how staff run events and community calls, manage submissions and subscriptions, handle payments, and support a community of over 95,000. It has also made it significantly easier and more efficient for the community itself to register for and attend events and calls.
With over 20 years of experience as a self-taught developer, Sam focuses on speed and simplicity, getting ideas built and into the real world quickly, then iterating based on feedback before scaling. He’s known for stepping back to see the bigger picture and for working out what people actually need, even when it hasn’t been clearly defined. His past work includes projects involving NBA All-Stars, the Lord Mayor of the City of London, and the BBC.
If you’ve been to FinOps X, there’s a good chance you’ve seen Sam somewhere between registration and whatever needed fixing next. He enjoys being part of the experience as much as building the systems behind it, and is always up for a conversation with anyone who grabs him mid-sprint.
