FinOps Open Cost and Usage Specification

The FinOps Open Cost and Usage Specification (FOCUS) is an open specification that defines requirements for technology billing data generators to produce consistent cost and usage datasets. As FinOps expands across Technology Categories, each with different billing formats, pricing constructs, and terminology, FOCUS provides the common data foundation that makes cross-category reporting, allocation, and benchmarking possible.

FOCUS is now at version 1.3, with native FOCUS data exports available from 11+ technology providers including AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, Oracle, Alibaba Cloud, and others. A Conformance Program validates provider compliance, a Sandbox lets practitioners explore FOCUS data hands-on, and a growing library of use cases and queries demonstrates how to apply FOCUS to real FinOps workflows.

For practitioners, FOCUS reduces the time spent wrangling disparate billing data and increases the time spent on analysis, optimization, and decision support. For leadership, it enables a unified view of technology cost across the organization.
